WFP statement on the murder of Terrence Crutcher

Working Families Party National Director Dan Cantor statement on the murder of Terrence Crutcher:

“We offer our condolences to the family of Terrence Crutcher. But condolences are not enough, and we also express our dismay and our anger that once again our country is faced with a police shooting of an unarmed Black man. The fact that this is utterly commonplace is a disgrace beyond words. We urge the Department of Justice to conduct a full investigation. And we insist that the nation take on the task of facing our history and the enduring existence of structural racism. This death is not a terrible accident. It is not the result of a “bad apple” in the Tulsa police department. This is not an exceptional event at all, but rather part and parcel of America’s history, just as much as redlining, disinvestment, labor market discrimination and unequal educational opportunity. Whether police violence and structural racism are part of our future is what is on the table right now.”
