Working Families endorses Ras Baraka for Mayor of Newark

Today we’re announcing our endorsement of Ras Baraka in the 2014 Newark Mayoral election. We’re going to harness grassroots strength and statewide resources to educate and move thousands of Newark voters to the polls on Election Day, and we’ll do it because Ras is exactly the kind of bold progressive candidate the New Jersey Working Families Alliance was founded to elect.

We’ve already built a considerable voter base in Newark through our successful campaign to make it the 2nd city in the state to pass an earned sick days law. Supporters delivered over 10,000 postcards from Newark voters in support of the historic ordinance to the Newark Municipal Council, and outreach to those voters will be a cornerstone of our electoral strategy.

Through Working Families grassroots activists, unions and community groups are uniting to advance progressive policies and elect bold leaders. We’re building a movement, and now that movement is coming out for Ras Baraka in a big way.
