WFP Opposes Gov. Cuomo’s New Tax Break for Wealthy

NEW YORK – Working Families Party New York State Director Bill Lipton made the following statement on Gov. Cuomo’s “Parental Choice in Education Act”:

The game is rigged against working families in Albany, and Gov. Cuomo’s proposed tax giveaway for the 1% is just the latest example. The Albany Times-Union got it right last week when they called the education tax credit “a public-private partnership of the worst sort — the public pays the tab, private schools and wealthy donors reap the benefits.” While children in New York’s public schools are still deprived of the resources they need to succeed, this legislation would funnel millions into the pockets of wealthy donors by allowing them to reduce their tax bills when they give money to their favorite private schools.
