A big victory in the fight for $15!

Yesterday, we stood with legislators to introduce a bill that would raise New Jersey’s minimum wage to $15, which would allow hundreds of thousands of hardworking people to achieve lasting economic stability. Check out the video below:

Even getting this historic bill introduced feels like a victory, but we’re not under any illusions. Raising the wage to $15 will be a heavy lift — and we can’t do it without you.

Too many people in New Jersey work hard, but can’t earn enough to meet the basics, much less sustain a family. Someone working full-time on the minimum wage makes over just $17,400 per year. But to cover the costs of essentials like food, clothes, and shelter, they would need to make one and a half times that. For a truly stable household, they’d would actually have to work 96 hours per week!

New Jersey is fundamentally out of balance. Since the Great Recession, all of the income gains have gone to the top while millions remain trapped in a broken economy. A shocking 2.8 million adults and 800,000 children in our state can’t afford essential needs.

Yesterday was a big moment in the Fight for $15 here in New Jersey, but we’re up against a hostile Governor and powerful interests that would like nothing more than to kill this bill. It will take massive public pressure to win the Fight for $15 in New Jersey — and that’s where you come in.
