On May 2nd, Governor Phil Murphy signed into law the New Jersey Earned Sick Leave law. Now more than 1 million New Jersey workers can free themselves of the worry and economic turmoil to care for themselves or their loved ones when illness strikes.
New Jersey Working Families, partner organizations and activists have fought to make this bill possible. Statewide earned sick days is finally a reality in New Jersey! Together we passed earned sick days in 13 municipalities, built support for statewide legislation, faced heavy opposition from the former governor, and made it a central inssue in the gubernatorial campaign.
None of this would have been possible without your emails, your phone calls, and your work to elect a progressive Governor who signed this bill!
We won on earned sick! This victory is so sweet and let’s congratulate ourselves!
“After more than 5 years of advocacy and countless conversations with voters, city council members, mayors Gubernatorial candidates and legislators, New Jersey working families can finally free themselves of the worry of economic turmoil brought on by the need to stay home and care for themselves and their loved ones when a simple illness or the need for preventive medical care strikes,” said Analilia Mejia, Executive Director of New Jersey Working Families Alliance.
