Announcing Our New Oregon State Director!

Earlier this month, we hosted our annual gala where we celebrated a year of change makers  (you can take a look at the photos here). We’re so grateful to everyone who made the event such a success: from our speakers, Jamie McLeod-Skinner and Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales, to our elected WFP champions, to our sponsors who so generously invested in our work, and to all of the volunteers who donated their time to this event. Thank you!

In case you missed it, we wanted to make sure you heard about a major announcement made at the event.

First, we bid farewell to Hannah Taube, our Interim Director until late last year. Hannah began at our Party as a super volunteer and then came on staff in 2013 expertly running the Party’s operations and compliance. Among many other feats, Hannah was instrumental in passing Oregon’s fair work week policy, a first in the nation law to require employers to give workers notice about their schedules. It’s been an incredible five+ years with Hannah on our team, and we are inexpressibly grateful for her dedication to our movement.

As we said goodbye to Hannah, we ushered in the next phase of Oregon Working Families Party leadership. We are thrilled to announce our new State Director: Sydney Scout.

Sydney brings years of experience running campaigns to elect working class champions to every level of Oregon’s government: from the School Board, to the County Commission, to the State Legislature. She’s also a proud, elected member of the Campaign Workers Guild (CWG) Executive Council, and helped to win the first CWG contract in Oregon last year.

Now, Sydney is excited to lead the Oregon Working Families Party into our next era. In the coming years, she’ll oversee our fight to elect Working Families champions across the state and down the ballot, while also ensuring that our elected leaders are unrelentlessly pro-worker in all that they do.
