New Jersey Working Families is a grassroots independent political organization fighting for a government that represents the needs and values of working families. We elect candidates who share our values and organize campaigns to advance progressive policies. Together we’re building a movement of working families to build a New Jersey for the many, not the few.More
Let’s face it: New Jersey’s economy is out of whack. All income gains since the start of the Great Recession have gone to New Jersey’s richest 5 percent, while the bottom 95 percent are paying more, getting less, and looking for jobs that are nowhere to be found.
Since our founding in 2008 we have been at the forefront of the fight for a more just New Jersey:
An Accountable Government: We are fighting for a more transparent, accountable, and responsive government. Now we’re fighting to dismantle New Jersey’s corrupt culture of political bosses and take back New Jersey for working people.
Fighting for $15: New Jersey Working Families led the successful fight to state minimum wage to $15/hour. Thanks to worker organizing, mass rallies, and pressure on the local and county level, one million New Jerseyans are on the path to $15.
Earned Sick Time for all New Jerseyans: We led the grassroots coalition that has successfully advanced earned sick time laws in eleven New Jersey municipalities in two years. The national media called it “the biggest wave of earned sick time victories ever.” That campaign laid the foundation for a statewide earned sick time law in 2019.
Fairer Budgets and Taxes: We coordinate the statewide Better Choices for New Jersey coalition that led the fight to reverse years of Governor Christie’s failed trickle-down policies. In 2009 we fought for and won a one-year tax increase on New Jersey’s richest 2%, and our work exposing New Jersey’s wasteful corporate subsidy programs has put them at the center of the public debate in New Jersey.
Protecting and Strengthening Voting Rights: In 2015 we launched a new campaign to increase voter participation in New Jersey. That campaign culminated in one of the most expansive automatic voter registration laws in the state.
