Hundreds of Constituents Brave the Cold to Press House Republicans on Medicaid and Education Cuts

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Constituents braved the bitter cold at recess actions organized by the Working Families Party. The actions took place in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Rally speakers called attention to Donald Trump and the GOP’s plan to gut Medicaid, Medicare, and abolish the Department of Education.

“Trump and Musk want to defund Medicaid and public schools to pay for tax cuts for billionaires,” said Ravi Mangla, National Press Secretary for the Working Families Party. “Families deserve to know whether their Members of Congress co-sign this plan to take away our health care and education programs.”

Here’s a round-up of the week of action:

  • Tuesday (2/18): Roughly 125 constituents in NJ-7 protested Rep. Tom Kean Jr.’s complicity in Musk and Trump’s cuts and disruptions to health care services.
  • Wednesday (2/19): Over a 100 constituents in NY-17, including parents, teachers, and students, gathered outside of Rep. Mike Lawler’s office to protest Trump and Musk’s efforts to cut from our public schools.
  • Wednesday (2/19): Roughly 100 constituents in Allentown, PA protested Trump and Musk’s attacks on Medicaid and critical health services outside of Rep. Ryan Mackenzie’s office.
  • Thursday (2/20): Over 100 constituents gathered outside Rep. Scott Perry’s (PA-10) office to protest proposed Medicaid cuts.
