Working Families Party rescinds endorsement of Krystle Matthews for U.S. Senate

This was a difficult decision for us here at the Working Families Party. After long and careful consideration, we have decided to rescind our endorsement for Krystle Matthews in her campaign for the U.S. Senate.

We believe her most recent incident and reactions do not reflect the goals and aspirations of our organization. The Working Families Party strives to build a multicultural party of working people to transform our communities and country. We feel Matthews’ recent comments are divisive and do not represent WFP’s goals.

“Rep. Matthews is a hard-working mother of five and a well-qualified candidate,” said Sr. Southeast Regional Director Britney Whaley. “She has done great things for the State of South Carolina as a State Representative, and we wish her the best in the race for U.S. Senate. However, following her divisive remarks, WFP has decided it is best for our organization to rescind our official endorsement for Rep. Matthews.”
