Lesly Muñoz Wins Seat for Oregon Supermajority

Oregon Working Families Party supported effort with 44,000 bilingual calls

Woodburn, OR — Representative-elect Lesly Muñoz pulled ahead by 161 votes to win a seat in the state legislature representing House District 22.

Oregon Working Families Party partnered with the farmworkers’ union Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN) to supplement the bilingual campaign for Representative-elect Muñoz by making over 44,000 bilingual calls to reach under-engaged voters in District 22.

“Farmworkers need a seat at the table in our state legislature,” said Representative-elect Lesly Muñoz (D/WFP – Woodburn). “Recently farmworkers won the same overtime protections all other Oregon workers enjoy, and now we have a voice in Salem to fight for equal rights in other areas.”

“It has been an honor to lead PCUN and work to build power for farmworkers in Oregon,” said Reyna Lopez, President of PCUN and chair of the Oregon Working Families Party State Committee. “The Oregon Working Families Party stands with farmworkers and we’re excited to see what the future holds as we join forces to empower and protect our communities.”

HD 22 is the last seat Oregon Democrats need to secure a supermajority in the Oregon House. A supermajority will allow Democrats to raise revenue. The last time Democrats held a supermajority was in 2019 when they passed a tax which has raised a billion dollars a year from large corporations for Oregon schools.

Representative-elect Lesly Muñoz will be sworn in on January 13th, 2025.
