Ohio Working Families Party-Endorsed Candidates Sweep May Primary

All five endorsed candidates in city council, judicial, mayoral, and school board races will advance to general election

OHIO — In the May 6th primary election, all five of the Working Families Party’s endorsed candidates in Ohio cruised to primary election victories on Tuesday, advancing to their respective general elections in November.

Mounir Lynch and Dr. Antoinette Miranda, Columbus City School Board; Ajmeri Hoque, Franklin County Municipal Court; Jesse Vogel, Columbus City Council; and Fran Wilson, Akron City Council all won their races and advanced to the general election.

“The Working Families Party was proud to support these five candidates who are committed to moving their regions in a more progressive direction that benefits working people,” said Aleena Starks, State Director of the Ohio Working Families Party. “In the coming months, we will continue to build community and make sure these candidates have the resources they need to win the general election and transform their offices.”

In the race for Columbus City School Board, Dr. Antoinette Miranda secured the largest percentage of the vote, while Mounir Lynch also will advance to the November general election. Six candidates are vying for three seats.

Ajmeri Hoque ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination to Franklin County Municipal Court, and will also run unopposed in the general election.

Jesse Vogel will advance to the November runoff for the seventh district on Columbus City Council. He is running for the former seat of WFP-endorsed and elected Franklin County Prosecutor, Shayla Favor.

Fran Wilson won the Democratic nomination for Ward 1 on Akron City Council, defeating two other candidates including the incumbent. Wilson will advance to the November general election where they will either run unopposed or face an independent candidate.
