WFP Champion Wins Convincingly in First Special Election of the Cycle

TUSCON, AZ — The Working Families Party celebrates Adelita Grijalva’s decisive victory in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.

The Party was a significant force in the race, spending $221,000 on several ads for TV, digital, and sending thousands of texts to voters. Along with our union and grassroots partners, we knocked on more than 90,000 doors and sent two direct mail pieces to likely voters in the district.

In addition to the WFP, Adelita earned endorsements from Senator Bernie Sanders, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

“Adelita’s victory tonight isn’t just a win for families in Southern Arizona. It’s a win for all those who believe in a government that works for everyday people,” said Maurice Mitchell, National Director of the Working Families Party. “Voters are tired of politicians who hide in the pockets of their billionaire donors. We know that Adelita is going to be a fearless fighter for working families in her district.”

The Working Families Party has tallied a number of major victories in recent weeks, including Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York City and mayoral races in Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany.

“There’s real energy right now for a different kind of politics, one that puts working people first,” said Maurice Mitchell. “That’s exactly why the Working Families Party was founded—to take on the corporate interests and billionaires who are rigging our economy and taking a wrecking ball to our democracy.”

On Tuesday morning, the Working Families Party announced its endorsement of educator and labor leader Amie Baca-Oehlert in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District. The Party expects to roll out more Congressional endorsements in the coming weeks.
