California Working Families Party Endorses Mai Vang in CA-7

The Party Looks to Unseat 20-Year Incumbent Rep. Doris Matsui
SACRAMENTO, CA–Today the California Working Families Party announced its endorsement of Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang in her bid to unseat Rep. Doris Matsui in California’s 7th Congressional District.
“I’m incredibly proud to earn the support of the Working Families Party,” said Mai Vang. “The Working Families Party understands that politics as usual has left too many of our families behind, and it’s time for new leaders who won’t hide behind a broken status quo. I look forward to working alongside the party and its members to lower the cost of living, invest in our communities, and protect our immigrant neighbors.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to endorse Mai Vang for Congress. We need energetic and passionate members of Congress who will fight for working people—not someone who hides behind tradition while our needs go unmet,” said Jane Kim, California Director for the Working Families Party. “Councilmember Vang has been a relentless champion from the jump, dedicating her career to serving our communities. As an elected leader, she has expanded health care access, led policy initiatives for immigrant and refugee families, and helped establish Sacramento’s Children’s Fund, which has dedicated millions annually to services for children impacted by poverty. Unlike the incumbent, who has been in office for over 20 years and no longer holds town halls or meets with constituents, Councilmember Vang steps forward every day to do the hard work.”
The proud daughter of Hmong refugees, Mai Vang is a lifelong South Sacramento resident and product of the public school system. As a Sacramento City Councilmember, she has championed investments for our youth, seniors, and least served neighborhoods. Vang’s campaign is rejecting corporate PAC money and is funded by individual donors.
The Working Families Party plans to engage its local membership and deploy resources to support Vang’s campaign for Congress.
