New Jersey Working Families Party Endorses James Solomon for Mayor of Jersey City

New Jersey’s leading progressive organization supports Solomon’s bold vision to make Jersey City affordable for all
The New Jersey Working Families Party (NJWFP) today announced its full support for James Solomon’s campaign for Mayor of Jersey City. Solomon’s record on City Council and his bold vision for everyday people of Jersey City qualify him to lead New Jersey’s second-largest city.
With its endorsement, NJ WFP is galvanizing voters from every corner of Jersey City and consolidating political support to defeat disgraced former Governor Jim McGreevey, whose well-known corruption scandals and close ties to the real estate industry disqualify him to do battle with entrenched special interests and make progress on the affordability crisis hurting Jersey City’s working families.
“We’re proud to endorse James Solomon as Jersey City’s next Mayor. While McGreevey is selling out his campaign to the same Republican donors to Donald Trump’s campaign, Solomon is rejecting donations from powerful developers,” said Antoinette Miles, State Director of the NJ Working Families Party. “Jersey City families deserve a Mayor with a bold vision to make the city affordable for all, with the courage to stand up to Trump – and that candidate is James Solomon. He understands that working families are living paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to wait for the promise of relief that never comes. We’re committed to partnering with James to build independent political power in a county that has for too long been dominated by broken machine party politics.”
NJ WFP’s endorsement comes on the heels of a historic victory for NJWFP candidate Katie Brennan in the State Assembly primary in the 32nd District against the Hudson County Democratic machine. The WFP will bring this energy and excitement, building momentum for more people-powered victories in Hudson County.
“The New Jersey Working Families Party has led the fight for a more progressive New Jersey, and I am so honored to earn their endorsement for Mayor of Jersey City,” said James Solomon, candidate for Jersey City Mayor. “Jersey City needs real leaders willing to name and blame the corruption that makes our city unaffordable —and we need fighters who are ready to take on the billionaire developers and corporations keeping costs high. I’m running to be that leader, and I’m proud to have the WFP by my side in this fight.”
The endorsement follows a vote of the NJ Working Families Party State Committee. Candidates who applied for the NJ Working Families Party endorsement were required to complete a robust questionnaire and interview process with organizational members of NJWFP’s State Committee, a multiracial coalition of labor unions, advocacy organizations, and grassroots groups.
In addition to Solomon’s bold agenda to build affordable housing with rents under $1,000 a month and freeze the rent when landlords break the law, Solomon has amassed an impressive record on City Council, where he has worked to cap rent increases, protect tenants from bad corporate landlords, and protect Liberty State Park from billionaire-backed development. And whether it was sponsoring a resolution calling for the end of the “county line” system in 2021, or joining Senator Andy Kim’s lawsuit to end the system in 2024, Solomon has a proven track record of standing up to the status quo when it matters the most.
This bold agenda, his track record of putting working people first and the strong grassroots support he has rallied from neighborhoods across the city make Solomon best positioned among a strong slate of candidates to defeat McGreevey and carry a progressive vision forward for Jersey City.
