More New Yorkers voted for Mayor on the WFP ballot line than in any other election in history

NEW YORK, NY — As polls close, election night tallies show the New York Working Families Party’s (NYWFP’s) nominee Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani holds a commanding lead. This is a historic victory for Zohran Mamdani, NY WFP, and the progressive movement as a whole—and it’s a rebuke of the politics of the past represented by Andrew Cuomo and his Trump-loving billionaire allies.

“A new day in New York City is here. New Yorkers proved that when working people come together, we can overcome even the most powerful forces standing in our way. This historic victory shows that our city is ready for a new kind of leadership—one that fights for a city we all can afford, for a kinder politics, and a future that’s oriented towards working people, not the billionaires,” said Ana María Archila and Jasmine Gripper, Co-Directors of the New York Working Families Party.

“With over 96% of precincts reporting, more New Yorkers voted for Mayor on the Working Families Party ballot line than in any other Mayoral election in history.”

“Zohran built an incredible coalition that reflects the beautiful mosaic of New York City, and brought together New Yorkers from all five boroughs. The NY Working Families Party was proud to build the big tent that ushered Mayor-elect Mamdani to win the Democratic primary in June. Now we’re ready to get to work supporting Mayor-elect Mamdani to deliver real change for New York City.”
