Working Families Party Calls on Speaker Johnson to Schedule a Floor Vote on ACA Subsidies

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Democrats secured the support of 218 members of Congress on a discharge petition to ensure a vote on a clean three-year extension of ACA subsidies. Without this extension, millions of Americans will see their health care premiums increase in January, causing many to lose health insurance entirely. In response to the petition, Maurice Mitchell, National Director of Working Families Party, has issued the following statement:

“Mike Johnson and Congressional Republicans need to schedule a floor vote to extend the ACA subsidies immediately. Without an extension, millions of working people are going to lose their health care at the end of the month.

For months, working-class Americans who rely on the ACA marketplace have been terrified about rising costs. Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have only worsened our health care crisis. Nobody should have to choose between seeing a doctor or putting food on the table for their kids.

Mike Johnson can finally do the right thing and pass this bill. There is no time for delays or excuses—Johnson must act now.”
