Oregon WFP Condemns Shootings by Federal Immigration Agents in Portland
PORTLAND, OR — Oregon Working Families Party Director Annnie Naranjo-Rivera made the following statement in response to the shootings of two Portland-area residents by federal immigration agents.
“Another day, another senseless shooting by federal immigration agents that has put two people in the hospital. We are sickened that residents of Portland are the latest to be subject to this rogue violence. This sickness is compounded by knowing that Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Kash Patel, and their henchmen may once again try to justify these actions and dodge accountability by blocking local and state law enforcement from fully investigating. Trump pledged to lower costs for working people, not send government agents to shoot them on their hometown streets. Americans are demanding accountability for those committing violence and criminal acts. The Trump Administration must withdraw all federal immigration agents from Portland and the other American cities under attack from government forces.
“To our community in Portland and across the state – stand strong, stay organized and stay safe. What’s happening now is not normal and we won’t let it become normalized. The witness we bear today will allow us to hold those committing these monstrous acts accountable tomorrow. Turn to your neighbors during these trying times. Continue to speak up even when your voice shakes – especially when your voice shakes. We will get through this.”
