Texas WFP Endorses Working Families Champions

TEXAS — Texas Working Families Party is endorsing Andrew Hairston for Travis County Justice of the Peace #1, Michelle Butler for Denton County Justice of the Peace #6, Dr. Jared Williams for Tarrant County Commissioner #2, Nydia Cardenas for Tarrant County Commissioner #4, Montserrat Garibay for Texas House 49, Jeremy B. Hendricks for Texas House 50, James “Jim” Bethke for Bexar County District Attorney, John Cruezot for Dallas County District Attorney, and Jose Loya for Texas Land Commissioner. These candidates are grounded in accountability to everyday people, and a shared vision for all residents: homes we can afford, quality healthcare we can rely on, time to spend with our families, quality childcare when and where we need it, and a meaningful job to support our families.

“Each of these elections represents an opportunity for Texans to vote for working family champions who will put them first, not corporations and the richest,” said Pedro Lira, State Director of the Texas Working Families Party. “Taylor Rehmet’s recent win in Senate District 9 shows that voters are hungering for candidates who know what they face and have the same lived experiences as them.”

“I’m running for Tarrant County Commissioner, Precinct 2, because county government should work for everyday people,” said Dr. Jared Williams. “Working families are being squeezed by rising costs, unfair property tax appraisals, and failing county services. I will ensure that resources flow to communities that have been historically under-resourced rather than to no-bid contracts or special interests.”

“WFP has always stood with the folks I’ve been organizing alongside for years: workers, renters, immigrants, and families who deserve a fair shot,” said Jeremy B. Hendricks. “WFP doesn’t just talk about transformative change — we build it by electing candidates who are accountable to movements, not special interests.”

“As a DREAMer and a bilingual educator, I intimately understand the problems facing our schools and will be a tireless voice for public education because I know firsthand just how life changing it is,” said Montserrat Garibay. “This office needs a fighter, someone who has the organizing experience and proven track record of leadership to be effective in standing up to Republican attacks on our public schools, healthcare access, and immigrant, black and brown, and LGBTQ+ Texans.”

As part of its endorsement, Texas Working Families Party is committing to organizing efforts, including knocking doors, engaging voters face-to-face, and communicating directly with communities, building the grassroots infrastructure needed not only to win on Election Day, but to govern effectively afterward.
