Texas WFP Hails Taylor Rehmet’s Stunning Victory in SD-9

FT. WORTH, TX Texas Working Families Party Director Pedro Lira made the following statement about Taylor Rehmet’s victory in Texas Senate District 9, a Trump +17 district:

“Taylor Rehmet won because he was talking about what voters here in Ft. Worth and everywhere else in the country care about – affordability. He knows working people are feeling the squeeze of rising grocery, utility, and health care costs. Taylor put his working class policies before the voters – fully funding public schools, protecting veterans, creating affordable housing, and putting workers first – and they saw someone who understands their lives and will fight for them.

“Taylor works his full-time job as a machinist and also leads his union, fighting for better pay, safer workplaces, and respect on the job. That’s the kind of leader voters want and why Texas Working Families Party hit the streets and the phones, including texting, to power his campaign. Using our cutting edge tools to analyze the district, WFP focused our efforts on the north end of the district.

“Voters here and throughout our country know Republicans are rigging the game against working people, cutting healthcare subsidies to fund an enormous transfer of wealth to the very top. His opponent spent $2 million more on her campaign than Rehmet and still lost. Money doesn’t beat people power when voters have leaders they know will show up for them.”
