WFP Announces Endorsements in North Carolina Primary
NORTH CAROLINA — The Working Families Party (WFP) is endorsing Representative Alma Adams for re-election in North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District. For over a decade, Rep. Adams has led the fight on issues important to working families, from food insecurity to rising medical care costs. Rep. Adams founded the Congressional Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus and the Black Maternal Health Caucus, bringing the needs of Black families to the forefront of policy conversations. The Party is proud to support Rep. Adams, a proven working families champion, in her re-election campaign.
“I am incredibly grateful to the Working Families Party for their endorsement and support,” said Rep. Adams. “I share their deep commitment to fighting for working people and ensuring everyone in North Carolina has equal access to human rights — which must include health care, housing, healthy food, and a higher education.”
The Working Families Party is also endorsing proven working families champions for re-election in downballot races across the state:
- Renée Ann Price, State House District 50. Rep. Price is a founding member and co-chair of the North Carolina Progressive House Caucus. She is focused on advancing legislation that protects the rights and dignity of working families.
- Rodney Pierce, State House District 27. Rep. Pierce is an advocate for public education, voting rights, living wages, and expanding economic opportunities in underserved communities.
- Satana Deberry, Durham County District Attorney. Deberry is seeking to serve a third term to the DA’s office to continue her work to end the criminalization of poverty. During her tenure, Deberry has reduced the number of people sent to state prison from Durham by half.
- Garry McFadden, Mecklenburg County Sheriff. Sheriff McFadden has a proven track record prioritizing working families; he started the “Father Initiative” to reconnect incarcerated fathers with their children and has ensured housing, treatment, and job training to help families build a future post-release.
The Working Families Party is also building a bench of working-class elected officials by endorsing a class of candidates challenging incumbents who aren’t serving their constituents:
- Rev. Rodney Sadler, State House District 106. Rev. Sadler is running to unseat incumbent Carla Cunningham (D), who has turned her back on working families and immigrant communities by supporting House Bill 318, which would require sheriffs to cooperate more closely with federal ICE officials. Rev. Sadler will stand up for immigrant communities, fight against powerful corporate interests, prioritize affordability and public education, and put his constituents first.
- David LaBarre, Orange County Sheriff. LaBarre is challenging the incumbent Orange County Sheriff with a platform built on accountability, fairness, and public safety. He brings strong people-centered values, community support, and a commitment to protecting immigrant communities.
Finally, the Working Families Party is endorsing Sherita Walton for the open seat for Wake County District Attorney: Walton enters a three-way primary to succeed longtime DA Lorrin Freeman — with Freeman’s endorsement. Having served as a defense attorney, prosecutor, and legal advisor to law enforcement, Walton brings a breadth of experience to the role. She aims to protect victims, promote accountability, and make the justice system accessible to all.
“The Working Families Party is proud to endorse bold leaders and working-class champions up and down the ballot in North Carolina,” said Britney Whaley, Southeast Regional Director of the Working Families Party. “North Carolina is uniquely positioned at the forefront of several important national fights — including redistricting, Medicaid cuts, environmental crises, and immigration. It is critical to have leaders on the ground who are ready to meet this moment with accountability, action, and a clear focus on working people’s needs. It will take great leadership to fight the great challenges North Carolinians are facing, and our endorsed candidates are proving they’re up for the task.”
The Party also recently endorsed Nida Allam in NC-04 in her primary rematch against Rep. Valerie Foushee.
Through Election Day and beyond, WFP will support endorsed candidates with access to voter tools and campaign resources, including phones and texts.
The Working Families Party is building governing power across the South, with recent historic victories in the 2025 Georgia Public Service Commission race and Texas State Senate District 9.
