WFP: “NO WAR WITH IRAN”

In response to the joint U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, Working Families Party National Director Maurice Mitchell issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump, alongside Benjamin Netanyahu, has launched a dangerous and illegal war that will put working people here at home and across the world in grave danger.

“The U.S. government has already spent decades, trillions of dollars, and countless lives on destructive wars in the Middle East. Each war made us less safe and the region less stable. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.

“Republicans claim we can’t afford health care, food assistance, schools, or infrastructure. But war with Iran will mean another blank check for bombs and defense contractors. Working families should not be asked to sacrifice their lives and livelihoods to prop up demagogues like Trump and Netanyahu, or so that weapons manufacturers can turn a profit.

“This war can and must be stopped. The President cannot unilaterally declare war — only Congress has the power to authorize military force. Today’s attacks on Iran have no legal basis without congressional approval.

“Congress must immediately pass a War Powers Resolution to halt U.S. involvement in this illegal war before it escalates further. The American people want peace and diplomacy, not another endless war.”

The Working Families Party is regular people coming together to fight for a country that puts working people first. Founded twenty-seven years ago, the WFP has expanded to over a dozen states and elected thousands of leaders at every level of government. The party has led — and won — state-level campaigns to raise wages for workers, establish paid sick and family leave, invest in public education, and tax the ultra-wealthy.
