Oregon Working Families Party Announces Second Round of Statewide Endorsements
Diverse candidates unite across the state to fight for working families
PORTLAND, OR — The Oregon Working Families Party (Oregon WFP) today announced their second statewide slate of endorsed candidates for the upcoming May election (full list of endorsed candidates is here). Taken together, the diverse slate represents an extraordinary expression of statewide solidarity and commitment to uphold dignity for all Oregonians. These candidates will center the struggles of working people, fighting back against right-wing agendas and austerity measures.
“Our residents and communities deserve to feel safe and supported against MAGA attacks on our values and our quality of life,” said Annie Naranjo-Rivera, State Director of the Oregon Working Families Party. “Working class folks deserve to be able to afford the things they need: groceries, housing, good quality schools, healthcare. We reject the idea that working families should continue to struggle to make ends meet because our politicians are beholden to their corporate donors and their agendas.”
Oregon WFP’s endorsements are strategic, looking to build governing power on local city councils and county commissions so that government is working for the people, not just the connected and wealthy. Oregon WFP candidates are also challenging incumbents who are working against their constituents and making communities poorer, sicker, and unwelcoming.
Oregon WFP endorsements in state legislative primary races reflect key districts where true champions for working people are challenging the status quo. These endorsements are coming on the heels of a legislative session where it is clearly more critical than ever to have politicians who are accountable to their constituents, rather than to corporate donors and the ultra wealthy.
“These candidates have shown us they will be fierce defenders of working families across Oregon. From farmworkers, to nurses, construction workers, educators to small business owners, we know these are difficult economic times, and Oregonians need elected officials with a vision that builds a multiracial economy and democracy that works for all,” said Reyna Lopez, Co-Chair of the Oregon Working Families Party and Executive Director of PCUN.
“As someone raised in the Rogue Valley and a mother raising my own children here, I know what working families are up against. My campaign is rooted in expanding affordable housing, strengthening public safety, and building an economy that supports working families in Jackson County. I am proud to stand alongside a movement that puts people first.” said Isabella Lee Tibbetts, candidate for Jackson County Commission, Position 3.
“I’m proud and excited to join the Working Families Party team for working people! I know our alliance will make a difference for the people of District 15 and all Oregonians. Ubuntu: I am because we are! People solidarity forever!” said Myrna Muñoz, candidate for Senate District 15.
“Working Families Party consistently stands with what’s best for working families, even when it’s hard. WFP is the gold standard for people-first politics.” said John (Waz) Wasielewski, candidate for HD 38. “Being endorsed by WFP tells me that I’m doing everything right in my campaign for the Oregon House.”
This slate of candidates represents the diversity and values of the Working Families Party which works to recruit and support working-class candidates to run for office at every level of government across the country in upcoming election cycles. The sought-after Oregon WFP endorsement includes support for its candidates from knocking doors and making phone calls to voters to paid media including mailers and social media, as well as mobilizing volunteers.
