OR WFP Responds to Deceptive and Inflammatory Portland Chamber of Commerce “Opinion Polls”
Annie Naranjo Rivera, State Director of the Oregon Working Families Party, made the following statement regarding recent reporting on the Portland Chamber of Commerce’s deceptive and inflammatory “opinion polls” that told respondents that candidates would engage in wealth redistribution and “fight for the abolition of capitalism”:
“The Portland Chamber of Commerce knows that the corporate Democrats they rely on to do their work in the legislature and local government are facing real challenges from candidates who are centering working people in their campaigns and in our government.
“The Chamber is using scare tactics because they know that Working Families Party-endorsed candidates and their platforms are popular with voters – taxing the rich and corporations, opposing data centers, ensuring affordable and accessible health care, and childcare.
“Oregon Working Families Party is proud of our endorsed candidates – all are working people’s champions who will put Oregon residents before the wealthy and well-connected. They are clear about their agendas and aims – no deception is needed when they are speaking to working people about our needs and communities.”
