Maryam’s career has been devoted to supporting and educating children. She began as a special education teacher, later served on the Windsor Board of Education, and now serves as House Chair of the Select Committee on Special Education. In that role, she led the passage of landmark legislation during the 2025 legislative session that delivered historic investments in special education, expanded access to critical services, and strengthened cost controls and transparency for families, schools, and communities.
Throughout her legislative service, she has been a leading advocate for fair tax policy, criminal justice reform, youth programming, public education, and support for workers and small businesses.
