NEW YORK, NY – The New York Working Families Party is a coalition of community organizations, labor unions and individual members, comprising over 257,000 New Yorkers. Jasmine Gripper, State Director of the New York Working Families Party, released the following statement:

“Tonight, Brad Lander secured the Democratic nomination in the 10th Congressional District. We are proud to send long time WFP member and champion Brad Lander to Congress. Brad Lander is a true fighter. He has taken on big corporations, polluters, union busters and more. Tonight’s victory showcases the multi-year efforts to build our party’s organizing infrastructure and develop movement leaders that are ready to step up and lead.

“We look forward to having Brad Lander join the growing block of Working Families Party members in Congress working to lower costs, stop the Trump Administration’s attacks on immigrants and end warmongering and genocide.”

The WFP has had a wave of notable success on the national stage over the past couple of months, with wins in competitive Congressional primaries in California, with Randy Villegas, Mai Vang, Aisha Wahab, Connie Chan, Angela Gonzales-Torres; Pennsylvania, with Chris Rabb and Bob Brooks; New Jersey, with Rep. Analilia Mejia; Ohio, with Brian Poindexter; and Robert White for Delegate representing Washington DC. The WFP also helped elect long-time party champion Janeese Lewis George to mayor of DC last week.
