WFP Sweeps CA Congressional Primaries

In NJ, PA, and now CA, WFP candidates have upset the hand-picked establishment candidates

SACRAMENTO, CA—The Working Families Party follows upset victories in PA-3 (Chris Rabb) and NJ-11 (Analilia Mejia) with a sweep in all five of its Congressional primaries in California.

WFP candidates Mai Vang (CA-7), Connie Chan (CA-11), Aisha Wahab (CA-14), Randy Villegas (CA-22), and Angela Gonzales-Torres (CA-34) are all advancing to the November general election.

“Voters are seeing through the bullshit and voting for candidates who aren’t in the pocket of billionaires and corporate interests,” said Ravi Mangla, National Press Secretary for the Working Families Party. “In New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and now California, WFP candidates have defied the odds and won shock victories over do-nothing corporate Democrats. We’re electing a new generation of leaders who won’t put up with being pushed around by billionaire elites.”

The WFP PAC spent $675,000 in support of Villegas, who overcame roughly $5 million in super PAC spending from centrist and pro-Israel super PACs. The WFP PAC, National Nurses United, and Justice Democrats spent a combined $650,000 in support of Vang, who looks to finish ahead of 21-year-incumbent Rep. Doris Matsui.
