Luke Bronin has a Problem with Working People

As mayor of Hartford, Luke Bronin was constantly trying to take rights and benefits away from working people, from firefighters to school bus drivers. Now more than ever, we can’t send Democrats to Congress who are wishy-washy about working families being able to make ends meet. We can’t trust Luke Bronin to fight for affordability, healthcare, or workers’ rights.

As Mayor of Hartford, Luke Bronin:

  • Oversaw the Conversion Plan of the Hartford Hilton to a much smaller hotel and apartment units without the same collective bargaining rights, resulting in a 66% reduction in unionized hotel jobs in the city, even as the plan was subsidized with millions of dollars of public funding. Some of the project’s developers have contributed to his campaign for Congress.
  • During his budget crisis in Hartford, one of Bronin’s first moves as mayor upon taking office was a power grab for the ability to take rights and benefits away from the city’s workforce. The Hartford Firefighters Association lamented Bronin’s refusal to negotiate in a “productive or meaningful manner.”
  • Luke Bronin cut benefits and support for first responders, including firefighters and police. Cuts included a wage freeze, a high-deductible health plan, reduced sick-leave benefits, and increased pension contributions..
  • Bronin circumvented the competitive bidding process on the Dillon Stadium/Trinity Health Stadium renovation project to help out the out-of-state developer he preferred. Local workers and Project Labor Agreements to deliver strong wages and benefits were neglected.
