Co-Director & Veteran Organizer Jasmine Gripper Will Lead the Party Following Successful 2025 Election Cycle

NEW YORK, NY — The New York Working Families Party congratulates Co-Director Ana María Archila for her appointment as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Commissioner for International Affairs. Archila will lead New York City’s engagement with the diplomatic community, the consular corps, and the United Nations.

New York WFP Co-Director Jasmine Gripper will work with state officers to lead the Party into its next phase and build off a groundbreaking 2025 elections cycle that saw party mayoral candidates score wins in New York City, Syracuse, Albany, and more.

“We’re thrilled to see Ana María take this big step forward and join the Mamdani Administration in a bold new political moment she did so much to create,” said Maurice Mitchell, National Director of the Working Families Party. “Ana María was building the Working Families Party long before she became its Co-Director, and she’ll always be part of the WFP family. The Party could not be in better hands than the incredible Jasmine Gripper, who has helped steer the ship to some of our greatest victories yet. For both New York City and the New York Working Families Party, the future is looking bright.”

Archila & Gripper co-led the New York Working Families Party during a transformative chapter. During their tenure, they helped lead the Party through a period of extraordinary growth and impact — ushering in the wins of Working Families Democrats to Executive leadership in the largest cities in New York State, winning battleground House races in New York State, strengthening the Party’s grassroots base, deepening multiracial and multi-issue coalitions, and winning consequential victories for working families across New York.

“There could be no better leader for the New York Working Families Party than Jasmine Gripper,” said Michelle Crentsil, Political Director at the New York State Nurses Association and Officer of the New York Working Families Party. “Jasmine’s relationships run deep, her fight is unwavering, and her vision for New York inspires us all. We are thrilled for her continued leadership of the Party. And as we usher in a new era in New York City, the mission of the NYWFP will only be strengthened by Ana María Archila joining the Mamdani administration. Her position as Commissioner will help build mutually beneficial relationships with leaders working to tackle inequality all around the world. We  are grateful for her time at the Party and excited for her new role.”

Ana María Archila and Jasmine Gripper became Co-Directors of the New York Working Families Party in October 2023. Archila, a long-time advocate for the rights of workers, immigrants, women, and the LGBTQ+ community, had previously served as a New York Working Families Party officer and co-chair of the national Working Families Party. She previously led key Working Families Party member organizations, including Make the Road New York and the Center for Popular Democracy, and was the WFP New York Lieutenant Governor candidate in 2022.

Prior to joining the NY WFP as Co-Director, Gripper served as Executive Director of the Alliance for Quality Education, and led campaigns that delivered record funding for New York’s public education system and historic child care funding. She was previously named one of City & State’s 40 Under 40 Rising Stars and regularly features on the Education Power 100 list. Born and bred in Queens, she is a proud graduate of New York City’s public school system and CUNY’s Hunter College.
