WFP Endorses Robert Peters for Congress in IL-02
CHICAGO, IL — On Tuesday, the Working Families Party endorsed State Sen. Robert Peters in the race for Illinois’s 2nd congressional district. The race is a critical opportunity to elect a strong progressive who will fight for the working class.
“Robert Peters has been an effective and fearless advocate for working people in Illinois for years,” said Amirah Sequeira, Director of Federal Affairs of the Working Families Party. “In the state senate, Robert stood up to corporate interests. He led the fight to pass transformative criminal justice reform legislation, and has worked to raise the minimum wage and lower healthcare costs for Illinois families. Robert is the kind of leader we need in Congress right now, deeply rooted in his community and fiercely independent from corporate interests. The Working Families Party is proud to endorse his campaign.”
“I’m honored to have the support of the Working Families Party,” said Robert Peters. “The Working Families Party is leading the fight for a politics that puts the needs of the working class first. As a community organizer and legislator, I’ve seen personally the ways billionaires and corporate interests manipulate our democracy. I am ready to fight alongside WFP in Congress to unrig the system and deliver for working people in IL02 and around the country.”
The WFP endorsed and strongly supported Rep. Delia Ramirez in her runs for U.S. House in 2022 and 2024. Rep. Ramirez, who represents parts of Chicago’s Northwest Side and suburbs, is one of the WFP’s leading champions in Congress.
Nationwide, the Working Families Party recently endorsed Mai Vang, who is challenging 20-year-incumbent Doris Matsui in CA-7; Brad Lander, who is challenging Rep. Dan Goldman in NY-10; Nida Allam, who is challenging Rep. Valerie Foushee in NC-4; and Randy Villegas, who is running in the Republican held CA-22.
Just a few weeks ago, another WFP-endorsed candidate and former director of the New Jersey Working Families Party, Analilia Mejia, won the democratic primary for the special election to represent NJ-11 in Congress for the remainder of this term.
